Blow Off Valve
Hyundai Veloster Blow Off Valves
A blow-off valve is an essential component in a turbocharged engine, designed to release excess boost pressure from the intake system when the throttle is closed. This prevents pressure build-up that can cause compressor surge, potentially damaging the turbocharger over time. Many OEM recirculating or bypass valves are made of plastic which is inadequate especially when running increased boost levels.
Types of Blow-Off Valves:
- Recirculating BOVs: These valves redirect the excess air back into the intake system. This type is ideal for those who prefer a more subtle sound and want to maintain the engine's air-fuel ratio stability, which can be critical for daily driving or emission compliance.
- Vent-to-Atmosphere BOVs: These release the excess air directly into the atmosphere, creating the loud, iconic "whoosh" or chirp sound.
- Hybrid BOVs: Combining the best of both worlds, hybrid BOVs offer the functionality of both recirculating and vent-to-atmosphere types. They provide a balanced sound and maintain system stability.
